This metal badge features the Wood County Constable’s Office insignia, serving Precinct 4 of Wood County, Texas, in East Texas with the county seat at Quitman. It is a shield badge struck in antique gold, the first design in this gallery built on a scalloped heraldic shield rather than a star or a star-in-ring.
Shape & Base: The badge is die-struck as a shield, with scalloped lobes at the shoulders, a rounded point at the base, and beaded borders running the full outline. Raised panels cross the top and bottom of the face, and fan-shell ornaments are worked into the metal at either side of the center.
Center: A large circular field is recessed into the middle of the shield and finished dark, and a five-point star rises out of it in raised gold. PCT 4 is struck across the face of that star in black-filled letters, so the precinct sits at the center of the badge rather than on a banner.
Ring & Banner Lettering: CONSTABLE arcs across the raised panel at the top of the shield in black-filled letters and WOOD COUNTY across the lower banner. There are no ribbon banners crossing the face and no state seal anywhere on the design.
Enamel & Tonal Detail: The antique gold plating leaves the recesses darkened while the raised surfaces come back warm, and the sunken center field reads darker still against the star rising from it. Black appears only as fill in the lettering.
Finish Quality: Die-struck in solid metal with an antique gold plating, hand-finished so the beaded outline holds its shape around every lobe and the darkening stays in the recesses.
