About this advanced EMS lamp and compass shield design
Most EMS patches lead with the star of life; this one leads with an initial. The lamp is the old symbol of care through the night, the compass speaks to finding the call, and the caduceus symbols tie both back to medicine. Four thread colors — navy, gold, grey and red — keep a busy composition readable, with the royal blue edge separating it from a dark uniform.
Make it yours before it stitches: set your own initial in the center, put your service and division names in the lettering lines, or replace the motto with your agency's. This page shows a design concept we manufacture to order — your stitch-ready proof arrives 6–12 hours after you order, and nothing is produced until you approve it.

Who orders this design
Advanced life support services, paramedic-level ambulance providers and county EMS divisions order this shield when they want an identity mark built around their own initial. Services with several divisions keep the emblem and change only the division line. Supervisors often add a smaller chest version for polos and jackets.

Advanced EMS compass patch questions
Can the center letter become our own initial?
Yes. The initial restitches to any letter, or to a two-letter monogram, and the lamp, compass and caduceus symbols are rearranged around it on your proof.
Can we drop the motto line?
Yes. Any of the five lettering lines can be reworded or removed; the shield rebalances the remaining lines so the layout doesn't look empty.
Will the compass detail survive at small sizes?
At 3.5" and above it stays crisp. For a 3" chest patch we simplify the compass points slightly and show the result on your proof first.
Can we get it in PVC for medic bags?
Yes. The same art molds as a PVC patch with hook backing, and many services quote embroidered and PVC versions together.
How do I show you our changes?
Open the markup tool in the quote form, circle the letter or any lettering line, pin notes and switch colorways. The marked version rides along with your quote.
