Description
This Loving County Sheriff’s Office patch recreates the office’s shoulder emblem for the county whose seat, Mentone, is also its only community. With 64 residents in 2020, Loving is the least populous county in the United States, and it is named for cattle drover Oliver Loving of the Goodnight–Loving Trail. A longhorn, a red Texas disc, and an oil derrick run down the center of this green shield.
Shape and Border: The patch is a shield with an arched top and a pointed base, finished with a yellow merrowed border.
Center Design: A brown longhorn steer head with long white horns sits below the title. Beneath it, a red disc holds a white Texas map with a white star, and a gray-and-white oil derrick stands at the base.
Lettering: SHERIFF’S OFFICE arches across the top in yellow. The years 1887 and 1931 sit on either side of the longhorn, matching the year the county was created and the year it was reorganized, and LOVING and COUNTY curve down the left and right sides in yellow.
Color and Thread: Yellow lettering on dark green, with a red center disc and touches of brown, white, and gray, gives the patch strong contrast and a ranch-country feel.
Finish Quality: Each patch is embroidered with full-coverage stitching on polyester twill, finished with a merrowed edge, and offered with iron-on or sew-on backing. For a department in a neighboring county, see the Reeves County Constable Precinct 3 badge.

🛡 Authorized Purchase & Credential Verification
Patches bearing a real agency or department name are sold only to that agency or its authorized representatives. Law enforcement and public-safety buyers must provide proof of occupation, valid credentials, or an authorized purchasing letter before production begins. We do not sell agency-named patches for personal use.
Custom and fictional designs — for example, a made-up department like “Town of Western Hope Police” — are welcome, as are designs where you change the agency or department name to your own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order a custom patch like this Loving County Sheriff’s Office design?
Yes. Owl Badges embroiders custom patches to match this Loving County Sheriff’s Office design, including the longhorn head, red Texas disc, and oil derrick, or adjusted to your own agency name, colors, and size. You receive a free digital proof before production begins.
Why does this patch show both 1887 and 1931?
Loving County was created from Reeves County in 1887, organized in 1893, dissolved in 1897, and reorganized in 1931, making it the only Texas county organized twice. The two years sit on either side of the longhorn near the top of the patch.
Can a longhorn and an oil derrick be stacked above and below a center emblem?
Yes. Symbols can frame a center emblem from top and bottom, as a brown longhorn head sits over the red Texas disc here and a gray-and-white oil derrick stands below it.
What does a sheriff patch like this cost?
Estimated pricing starts at about $17 each at 10 pieces and drops to roughly $2 each at 1,000 pieces, with no setup fee. Final pricing depends on size, stitch count, and quantity, and is confirmed with a free quote.
How long does production take for a patch like the Loving County design?
Production typically takes about three to six weeks after proof approval, covering digitizing, embroidery, merrowed edging, and backing. Your proof is confirmed before stitching starts.
Do I need credentials to order a Loving County Sheriff’s Office patch with the real agency name?
Yes. Patches bearing a real agency or department name are sold only to that agency or its authorized representatives. Law enforcement and public-safety buyers provide proof of occupation, valid credentials, or an authorized purchasing letter before production begins. Fictional or fully customized designs with your own name are welcome without that step.
