This metal badge features the Bay City Police Department insignia, serving the city of Bay City, Texas, the seat of Matagorda County on the Gulf Coast. It is a round badge struck in polished gold, built around a complete miniature shield badge at its center.
Shape & Base: The badge is die-struck as a full disc, with an outer band framing the face and a black enamel ring separating that band from the inner field. Gold wheat sprays are worked into the band at both sides, and the field behind the center is finished plain so the raised work stands forward of it.
Center: A complete eagle-top shield badge is struck in miniature at the middle of the disc, with a spread-wing eagle at its crown and laurel sprays framing its sides. At the heart of that shield a red enamel ring carries STATE OF across the top and TEXAS across the bottom in gold, around a gold star set in a laurel wreath.
Ring & Banner Lettering: BAY CITY arcs across the top of the outer band and POLICE DEPARTMENT across the bottom, both in black-filled letters. On the miniature shield, black enamel banners read POLICE and OFFICER above the seal, with BAY CITY and TX on plates below it.
Enamel & Tonal Detail: Black enamel carries the separating ring and the four small banners on the inner shield, and red fills the seal ring at its heart. Everything else is polished gold, so the eagle, the wheat sprays and the laurel work all read through relief.
